Sarah Butterfield Howard came to Fairfield Plantation in the year of eighteen thirty as the young bride of Harlan Howard. He had some depraved surprises in store for her, but it was Sarah who did the surprising.

This isn't a nice story about nice people. None of the characters are someone you would ever want to meet. The story is taken from a dark period in American history when black men and women were treated as chattel.

At first it was just Sarah until she talked a neighbor lady, Lucy, into sampling forbidden fruit. Then Sara convinced Lucy to go with them to New Orleans for the biggest show of all.
