STORY DESCRIPTION Laura Barnett is a feisty, independent, left-wing firebrand . She used to be the Socialist media pin-up girl until the arrival of the New Government. Now the work has dried up and she needs money. She takes a large commission to uncover what really goes on at St Benedict's College, the New Government's favourite educational establishment for young women.
But it's a trap, the headmaster, Marcus Thompson, knows she is coming. He and the rest of the staff imprison her and then work at changing her political beliefs. After several incidences of physical and sexual punishment, Laura is judged compliant enough to be ready.
The true purpose of luring Laura to St Benedict's soon becomes apparent. She is to be repurposed. Rather than rail in the media about the New Government, she is going to become one of its most fervent supporters. And all this will happen in public. She will lose her career, her friends, and ultimately her dignity.
She will also come under the thumb of her biggest rival and most hated political opponent, Karen Hopkinson. Karen agrees to interview the new, repurposed Laura on her TV show. As a result Laura's political credibility is shattered. She is then required to work as a lowly personal assistant to Karen. Ultimately Karen, a predatory lesbian, slowly takes over Laura's new life, micromanaging every aspect of it.
